Why would I choose to work with QAT as an Agency?
QAT is a personable, developmental and high quality supply teaching agency that is powered by current professionals. We offer brilliant opportunities in multiple schools around South Yorkshire alongside supporting our teachers in their further career development.
What qualifications do I need to work as a supply teacher?
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is not essential when wanting to complete supply work. However, to ensure we are providing Quality Assured Teachers, if you do not have QTS, we assess you are working towards a relevant qualification and / or have the necessary experience / skills to complete a cover supervisor role.
How does the registration process work?
At QAT we ensure your registration is a personable, informative and thorough process, to make sure the role is right for you and you’re equipped. We’ll have a chat over the phone, arrange an in person meet and then run through the key areas involved with supply teaching, alongside a thorough vetting process.
Do I need a DBS check to work as a supply teacher?
Yes, you will need an Enhanced DBS check, which is a criminal record check, to ensure you are eligible to work with children. If you do not currently have one, thats no problem, we will apply and pay for your DBS when you onboard.
What types of schools can I work in through the agency?
Supply teachers can be placed in primary, secondary, and special education needs (SEN) schools, depending on your qualifications, experience and preference.
How much can I expect to earn as a supply teacher & when do I get paid?
Earnings vary based on the level of your experience. However, the QAT pay scale is between £70 – £210 per day. We always strive to pay the best rates to our supply teachers. Long-term or specialised roles may result in higher pay. All teachers will be paid on a weekly basis.
I am studying at University and want to gain some experience in schools, can I register as a supply teacher?
Yes. We regularly enrol students at university who are looking to gain valuable experience in schools whilst earning a wage. We have a brilliant track record in developing aspiring teachers teaching practice and building towards a full time role in schools.
What are the typical working hours for supply teachers?
You will be required to work regular school hours, which varies slightly from school to school. Typically, arrive at 8:15am and a finish at 3:00pm. Usually leading x5 lessons through that time.
Can I choose which days or schools I work in?
Yes. Working as a supply teacher is very flexible. Each week we will send you an availability form for the following week, you select the days that work best for you and we’ll look to fill those with work.
Will I receive support from the agency?
Yes. Support and developing your teaching practice is one of the main pillars at QAT. We have a very strong bank of personal teaching experience, reinforced by up to date relevant and practical resources to support you for your time in schools.
Do I need to plan work prior to going into schools? And am I expected to know subject specific content?
No, you do not need to plan lessons for a day of supply teaching. The usual classroom teacher will provide you with a comprehensive lesson plan to deliver for each part of your day. This means you do not need to be a specialist in each subject area, your main role is to make a positive working relationship with the students and manage the classroom.
